VARSITY HEAD COACH
ROBERT TORRIBIO
Coach Torribio is entering his 24th season as a coach at Newport Harbor High School. Over that past 23 seasons, he has coached all levels of Sailor Basketball: Freshman, JV, and Assistant Varsity Coach. He is also a proud Alumni of Newport Harbor High School, graduating in 1995. As a player, Coach Torribio set a record of 6-cosecutive 3-point shots in a single game which lasted for 11 years. In 12 seasons as the varsity head coach, the Sailors have reached the playoffs nine times and have won four Sunset League championships. He was named Daily Pilot Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019 and he was selected to coach in the Orange County All-Star game in 2019. Coach Torribio is happily married to his wonderful wife Jamie and has three amazing boys, Leyton (Class of 2026), Lyle, and Llewyn.
VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH
JASON CAREY
Coach Jason Carey has been coaching high school basketball for over 25 years. He graduated from Edison High School in 1989 and continued his education at San Diego State University, earning a degree in Physical Education. At SDSU, he worked as a student assistant coach for the men’s basketball team. Coach Carey then went on to coach at Edison High School for 8 years, followed by 2 years as the Head Varsity Coach at La Quinta High School, and then 8 years of Varsity coaching at Fountain Valley High School. This will be Coach Carey’s 14th season with the Sailors and 12th year as Varsity Assistant with Coach Torribio. He is happily married to Julie and has three beautiful daughters, Riley 24, Reagan 20, and Irish 16.
JV HEAD COACH
OLIVER PICK
Coach Pick, graduate of Newport Harbor High School in 2021, is entering his 4th year coaching with the Newport Harbor basketball staff. He is currently attending Concordia University and is majoring in Kinesiology. Coach Pick also works with the Concordia Men’s basketball team. In addition to coaching basketball at Newport Harbor High School, he is also involved with the boys and girls volleyball programs at the school. Coach Pick’s favorite part of coaching is being able to impact the youth in a positive way and hope to give the student athletes a great high school basketball experience.
FRESHMAN HEAD COACH
JONAH TOLMAIRE
Coach Jonah is from Mission Viejo, California. He started playing basketball at the age of 6, and never looked back! What he loves about basketball so much is the people he has met, and opportunities it’s blessed him with. He’s also been blessed to achieve his dream of playing college basketball and being able to earn a degree from Concordia University in Irvine. Basketball has taught him many valuable life lessons such as respect, accountability, and resilience. He looks forward to sharing his knowledge and passion of the game to the next generation of players!
